Jakarta is The Winner of We Love Cities 2018

Jakarta becomes the winner in We Love Cities 2018 global event held by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Besides We Love Cities event, Jakarta is also chosen again as the national winner of One Planet City Challenge (OPCC).

Jakarta wins with large amount of support than other cities

With an absolute victory, Jakarta is now entitled as the most loved city by its citizen and win against big cities such as Tokyo, Vancouver, and Kuala Lumpur.

Jakarta chosen as the winner after passing through a massive campaign from May 7 to June 30, 2018. It also can be achieved from Jakartans support and contribution through voting and constructive suggestions to develop Jakarta.

Jakarta is Chosen as Finalist in We Love Cities 2018 Event

As the winner of We Love Cities 2018 campaign and national winner of OPCC, Jakarta will get certificate and global acknowledgement in OPCC Global Awards Ceremony of Global Climate Action Summit event series held in San Francisco, United States, on September 12-14, 2018.

"Jakarta wins with large amount of support than other cities. It shows that Jakarta is able to encourage its citizen to support city in this international campaign," mentioned Isnawa Adji, Jakarta Environment Dept. Head, Wednesday (7/4).

According to him, this victory can be achieved because of support from Jakarta Governor, Vice Governor, and all Jakarta Governments, BUMD, and citizen.

"It is impossible without contribution from citizen who loves its city. Even Jakarta Governor and Vice Governor also invites Jakartans to participate via short video and it becomes viral in social media," he said.

One of Jakarta's success key is social media interaction using #WeLoveJakarta to make it popular. It is noted 164,954 interactions in social media and 4,464 suggestions in making Jakarta becomes better.

"According to Anies Baswedan, Jakarta Governor's policy, Jakarta should be developed using movement based approach," he added.

Jakarta competes with 50 finalist cities from 21 countries. This campaign's purpose is to improve feedback and engage citizens in sustainable urban development to support action against climate change challenges.

Meanwhile, Global Communicator Sustainable Cities WWF, Victoria Olausson said, Jakarta has a remarkable skill in getting citizen supports from this campaign.

"Citizen interest and city government is the key to succeed city in achieving sustainable development ," he assessed.
